737 RVSM
B737 RVSM Single DADC Configuration
ASM P/N K5645-0000-00
STC SC10363SC
The Digital Air Data System (DADS) will be modified on the 737 series aircraft in order to meet the air data accuracy requirements of CFR 14 Part 91 Appendix G, which is required for an approval to operate in RVSM airspace. Qualification for RVSM operation is applicable only after the completion of this modification to the existing Air Data System. This effort will qualify the air data system equipment to allow operation in RVSM airspace, but does not provide operational approval.
The modification will consist of installing the Altitude Alert source annunciator/switch, relays and related wiring. The modification will also verify the installation of the RVSM qualified DADS system component part numbers, replacing any non-qualified equipment as necessary. An Altitide Alerter Source Control Switch (DADS 1/ DADS 2) is added to the cockpit. The source select switch provides for either the No.1 or No. 2 DADC system to provide alitude data to the Altitude Alert Controller. Dual source inputs to the Alititude Alert Controller is required for aircraft with single channel autopilots. The alerter source select switching relays will be installed in the aircrafts left fwd pedestal. The DADS 1/ DADS 2 switch will be located on the lower Center Instrument Panel. The system should be selected on #1 unless there is a DADC #1 failure, then DADC #2 would be selected. The #2 DADC will be installed and mounted on the E1-1 shelf, the Altitude Alert Controller will be mounted in the fwd pedestal and the F/O's Electric Altimeter will replace the existing pressure altimeter in its current location.
The DADCs receive pressure inputs from the Captain's and First Officer's pitot and static systems and translate them into altitude and airspeed information. The altitude information is displayed on the Captain's and First Officer's electric altimeters. The autopilot/flight director system, flight data recorder, ground proximity warning system/windshear, GPS System, Performance Data Computers and both transponders also receive altitude information from the DADCs. This modification retains the interface with these existing aircraft components/systems.
By using the newly installed switching, the altitude alerter receives altitude information from either pilot's DADCs via the altimeters. The alerter provides audible and visual warning of deviation from a selected altitude.
A standby altimeter is required by this installation. If one is not currently installed in the aircraft, an approved pressure altimeter will be installed as the Standby Altimeter. If required the standby altimeter will be installed in the forward instrument panel. The standby altimeter will receive pressure inputs from the Captain's or auxiliary pitot-static ports as selected by the pilot via the Static source selector switch.
